Drawing on their academic research and counselling experience, Dr. Miklós Kenderfi and Gabriella Győrváriné Tumpek recognised that one of the most significant barriers preventing mothers from returning to the labour market is not a lack of competence, but a lack of self-confidence. At the Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences, they developed the Mothers’ Motivational Interview (MMI) — a structured, self-empowering method designed to help mothers rediscover and articulate the transferable skills developed through childcare.
By guiding participants through an eight-step reflective process that links everyday caregiving activities to labour-market-relevant competences, they transform informal experience into recognised professional capital. Their approach demonstrates how targeted, person-centred intervention can strengthen self-esteem, improve employability, and create more inclusive pathways back into work.
