From Theory to Practice: What We Learned from the HR+ Pilot in Spain

  • by

What happens when HR training feels like real work?

That’s exactly what we explored during the HR+ pilot training in Vigo (Spain)—a hands-on experience designed to test how new HR approaches work in practice.

Participants were asked to analyse real cases, make decisions, and defend their ideas from the very first session.

But the learning didn’t stop there. It continued beyond the classroom.

Through Work-Based Learning (WBL), participants worked on real tasks such as:

  • Designing a career development conversation with a sustainability focus
  • Creating a succession planning proposal linked to future skills and organisational needs

These weren’t theoretical exercises; they required participants to apply concepts to realistic situations and think strategically.

“You had to actually use what you learned, not just understand it.”

The result?

✔ Deeper learning
✔ Stronger engagement
✔ Skills that transfer directly to real work

And ultimately, each participant developed their own HR proposal, presented as part of the HR+ Contest.  Because when learning feels real… it stays with you.

A step forward for HR training

The HR+ pilot in Spain is part of a broader effort to rethink how HR professionals are trained across Europe.

By combining:

  • Practical learning
  • Real-world application
  • Peer exchange

the programme offers a model that can be adapted and used in different contexts.

The HR+ Training Programme is not just a training model, it’s a different way of learning.
